Moshe Lorber, David Lorber-Rolnik’s uncle.![]() Moshe Lorber. He was David Lorber-Rolnik’s uncle. Photo taken in Chelm, circa 1927 Moshe Lorber was born in Chelm in 1890 and he was married to Sura Szyfer and had a son, Joseph. He was the president of the local Shop and Artisans Association and he also acted as a representative of the business community at the Municipal Finances Office. He was one of the "Volks-Schule" builders, from the leftist Poalei-Sion Party, and he owned a firewood and coal deposit. When the Germans came to Chelm., he was arrested by Gestapo and the SS men hurt him and mistreated him very much. He was taken out of the prison in exchange of money and he took refuge in the town of Luck. Later he was sent together with his nephew David Lorber-Rolnik to the Ural Mountains. After the war, he immigrated to Israel where he died. His son Josef was married to Lea Furer Lorber. They and their child were killed by the Nazis when they were taken out of their hiding place in Vlodimierz, Volin. |
